My little scientistI brought my 2 1/2 yr old daughter to Boston University this past week for a 2 part study on how young children learn about different kinds of objects. I thought it would be fun for us to go into the city and meet some new people and help out the students. My daughter can be a bit slow to warm up to strangers and since this was only a 15 minute session, I thought it might help her learn to jump into things faster. She looked for my approval a few times but with a big smile and a nod of the head from me (they asked me not to do too much talking) she quickly did the play tasks the students asked of her. When the study was over she wanted to play more! The students were very friendly and they made the whole experience easy and fun for all of us. My daughter was rewarded with a t-shirt and toys and she couldn't have been happier! If you are interested in having your child be a little scientist check out your local university or college's department of psychology and see what you can find. My next stop is Harvard for a study with my 9 month old. Stay tuned.
