Myringotomy-those ear tubes everyone seems to haveMy daughter had 5 ear infections last year and has one now. After a few people commented (her teachers and grand father) that she is not pronouncing all her letters, I took her in for a hearing test. She was diagnosed with mild hearing loss because of the constant fluid that has been in her ears for what we can only imagine is months. Every time she sees her Pediatrician for a post ear infection check, the fluid is still in her ears albeit clear. In other words, there is a chance that my daughter has been living with fluid in both ears for a year. She is a vibrant, fun, funny, talkative, sweet 3 year old...not disconnected at all. But she does ask for music and TV to be turned up and does have trouble with some words. Part of me thinks it is an easy decision, get the tubes. The other part thinks, wait and make sure they don't drain fully this time. I have done a lot of reading online and I also posted the situation on my Facebook page. Many, many of my friends responded with positive stories about their children Myringotomy which helped. WestCoastMom offered a lot of support (as usual) and posed many good questions for me to ask my daughter's ENT. At this point, I have decided to see my daughter's Pediatrician for the post ear infection check up one month post ear infection, view the ears for fluid and make a final decision then. I will update this post at that time..... |

Our sons' ear infections
Thanks! We had multiple ear infections with both children and almost had tubes for both. Both kids were on months of preventative antibiotics during which the ear infections cleared. Then they got bigger and seemed to outgrow them. Of course, B has been cranky for a bit and I think he might have an ear or sinus infection now...
Below are a few posts each with information about our ear and sinus infections.
