Sunset magazine celebration weekend

We just returned from the Sunset celebration weekend in Menlo Park. It was fun to walk around with the kids and we all found something we liked. My husband was interested in the pre-fab eco-oriented Breezehouse, I was excited to see the Sunset grounds, and the kids were excited to see a river raft, old police car, and Del's lemonade...

We wanted to see the inside of the Breezehouse, which could be an interesting cottage or replacement home. At first I thought there was a huge line for the Del's lemonade stand, but it turned out that the line was to get into the Breezehouse, so we only saw the outside.

Because the Dell's line was shorter, we introduced our son and his friend to the Cranston, RI shaved ice lemonade (we think it counts as preparation for attending Brown). When asked what he thought about the lemonade he said, "it tastes like snow", with a huge smile on his face. Unfortunately, comments like this don't seem to make my husband feel any better about not living near snow.

The activities that would be of interest to kids included having your picture taken for a mock Sunset Magazine cover, decorating cookies, decorating pots, a climbing wall, making a lei (Hawaiian airlines booth), kids fingerprinting (okay that one was for adults), and a kids area with sand toys in the sand volleyball court. Out of all of the activities, we had pictures taken (the leis were for older kids and we chose to hang out in the shade instead of waiting in lines).

There were also police cars on display and a raft for river trips. The boys loved the raft. They both climbed in, played with the oars, sang songs, and made up stories. They also liked the yellow construction hats from Habitat for Humanity ($2.00 donation -- located near the entrance to Sunset Magazine). In addition, Safeway had a large display with food samples on the Sunset grounds. The boys had blueberry muffins, yogurt, carrots, apple juice, watermelon, and strawberries.

Overall it was a great couple of hours. The cost for adults is $10.00 and kids under 12 are free. Open May 21-22, 10am -- 5pm.

Del's lemonade

My husband pointed out that I had misspelled Del's, which is why I couldn't find their homepage. Their website is cute and includes games. If you miss Del's or want to have some at home, you can order their dry lemonade mix for $9.95 (it's the same mix used in the stores).

Make your own Del's Lemonade right at home with our all natural, dry lemonade mix. Just add water, ice and mix in a blender for 30 seconds! It's that easy! 8 individual packets per container. Makes 1 gallon total. (from Del's.com)
